1. Where are you from?

1. I was born in Antwerp, a Flemish city in Belgium, on January 21, 1948. At the moment, I live in Pécs (Hungary) where I enjoy my retirement in nature. 

2. In your artistic life what interesting experiences have you had?

2. My accident with my parachute in free fall, where I fell like a torch and survived, remains a unique experience. I painted this incident on canvas in 2020, and it is called 'The Smell of Grass.' Also, a trek in 1978 through the Himalayas. The 'Thorong La Pass' on the Annapurna, where we narrowly escaped an avalanche.   

3. What interests you to express in your art work?

3. My works contain humor, sometimes suggestive with a touch of eroticism. Sometimes they also serve as a critique of society. 

4. Do you have a special style?

4. My style leans towards surrealism. 

5. Have you had an exhibition that you consider the most important or interesting, for some reason?

5. My exhibition in 2016 at the 'Castle of Schoten' in Antwerp, together with a childhood friend whom I met again after fifty years. We didn't know that we both painted.   

6. What are your favorite artists and why?

6. Since my youth, I have had great admiration for the imagination of Salvador Dali, as well as René Magritte and other surrealist painters.   

7. Do you want to transmit some message with your work?

7. My life motto is: 'Don't live to work, but work to live!' My works should not be taken too seriously. That is why I usually incorporate some humor into my canvases, sometimes hidden. 

8. What does art mean in your life?

8. For me, painting always means escaping from reality for a while, away from all the negativity that is imposed on us by the media. 

9. Which techniques do you like to work with?

9. Techniques? Always with a brush and oil paint, rarely using a palette knife. 

10. What would you do to bring art closer to people?

10. Difficult question. Is it sometimes not the artist who feels elevated above non-artists? The internet has already contributed a lot to bringing art closer to the public. As long as art remains a form of investment for the elite, it will be difficult to bring art closer to the people.
